Pearls

 

If something acts to irritate
An oyster it will fabricate,
From iridescent laminate,
A valuable gem. 

But even if I concentrate 
On all the things I really hate 
I’m still unable to create 
The smallest one of them.

It is my most unhappy fate
To have been born a vertebrate;  
All I can ever generate
In irritation's phlegm.
